Education Minister set to launch Knowledge and Skills Bank portal

The Minister in Charge of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, is set to launch the Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB) portal (https://gksb.gov.gh) to enhance knowledge acquisition and skills development in the country.
The initiative is a key component of the government’s ambitious digitalization agenda, which aims to enhance access to quality education for all, regardless of location or resources.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation of Ghana (MoCD) said the GKSB will be launched on September 17, 2024, at the Accra Digital Centre at 10:00 AM.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank according to the Digitalisation Ministry, will store a wide array of educational materials including content from reputable sources such as Cambridge University Press, Cengage Learning, and many others.
“This portal has been built to serve as a one-stop shop for knowledge acquisition. It will be linked to the existing portals for ease of referencing.
It also includes online materials already developed by the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS) and the Ghana Education Service,” the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization said in the post.
The GKSB developed by Npontu Technologies, a leading AI research and development in Ghana is modelled after the Egyptian Knowledge Bank as part of moves by the government to transform the country’s educational system to meet international standards.
The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in an interview with Accra-based Asaase radio said amid the GKSB, Ghana is poised to actively participate in the fourth industrial revolution with the right investment in education.
“We also have the Ghana knowledge and skills bank, something we are about to launch very soon modelled after the Egyptian knowledge bank, it has already been developed
The initiative is funded by the World Bank with textbooks and magazines for universities on it, all the textbook and literature books from primary are all on the “Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank,” the Education Minister stated.
Adutwum added, “What you need is your national ID, you log in, books are made available to you at home school and then on your devices. So our government is looking at creating the entire ecosystem for the transformation of education.”
He noted that the GKSB not only brings convenience to students by providing access to materials such as past questions and tutoring services but also encourages a collaborative learning environment.
“We want to see Ghanaian students excelling globally, and the GKSB is a critical tool in making that happen,” Dr. Adutwum stated, adding that the platform offers local language tutoring and career planning options to make education more inclusive and user-friendly.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB), which provides free access to an extensive range of educational materials and tutoring services, is set to change the face of education in Ghana.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank will offer students, from basic to tertiary levels, access to educational resources, career planning tools, and self-learning opportunities, even in offline mode.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB) was developed by Nponto Technologies, a local technology firm, showcasing Ghana’s growing capacity for tech innovation.
The platform is designed to be accessible offline, ensuring students in remote areas can download materials and study without a continuous internet connection.
