2025 first-year SHS students have 3 days to report to school – GES
The Ghana Education Service (GES) says students who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and are entering Senior High School as first-year students have three days to report to the schools where they’ve been placed through the computerized placement system.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Ghana Education Service said the first-year SHS students’ school reporting date starts from Saturday, October 18, 2025, to Monday, October 20, 2025
“The about 590,000 first-year SHS students are reporting to school today, tomorrow, and Monday. 3 days for reporting. We welcome them and wish them well,” GES stated in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, a former Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, last year said first-year students who do not go to school on the reporting date would not lose their admission.
In an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, he explained that the reporting date is to enable the Junior High School graduates entering Senior High School (SHS) as first-year students to begin their second-cycle school registration processes.
“Students are expected to go to school to begin the registration process, which also goes through orientation. So it is not that if you do not go to school on the reporting date, you will lose your admission,” the MoE spokesman said.
In other news, the Ministry of Education has extended a warm welcome to about 590,000 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students reporting to their respective schools from Saturday, October 18, and Monday, October 20, 2025, to begin the 2025/2026 academic year.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Minister for Education, Hashmin Mohammed, the Education Ministry described the moment as a major milestone in the students’ academic journey urging them to approach this next phase of their education with dedication, discipline, and enthusiasm.
The Ministry of Education also commended parents and guardians for their patience and cooperation throughout the school placement exercise and announced that placement into schools and residential status for the new academic year has officially closed.
The statement further encouraged all parents and guardians to proceed to their assigned schools to complete enrollment processes and help their wards settle in smoothly for the commencement of academic work.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all Ghanaian children and assured that measures have been put in place to guarantee a smooth start to the new school year across the country.
“We once again welcome our young learners to the senior high school family and wish them the very best in their academic and personal development,” the statement added.
This year, a total of 590,309 BECE candidates qualified for second-cycle school (SHS/TVET) placement. Out of this, 483,800 were placed automatically, while 107,000 secured schools through self-placement.
Of the 483,800 Basic Education Certificate Examination graduates who secured automatic second-cycle school placement, 234,783, representing 48.6% were boys, and 248,038, representing 51.4% were girls.
A total of 82 per cent (82%) of qualified students who sat for the 2025 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been placed in their first-choice second-cycle schools.
According to Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Abas Apaak, 49 out of 70 private Senior High Schools (private SHSs) have been made available for self-placement at the Computerized School Selection and Placement System.
