GES gives dates for 2025 BECE and WASSCE for School Candidates

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the dates to conduct the 2025 edition of the BECE and WASSCE for School Candidates to be administered to pre-tertiary final-year students in the country.
In a letter addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, GES stated that the BECE for school candidates will take place from June 9 to 16, 2025, while the WASSCE for school candidates will run from August 4 to September 19, 2025.
The letter, signed by Prince Charles Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division sighted by Pretertiary.com, GES called for timely preparation for the national and international examinations.
The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed Regional Directors of Education to inform Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education of the latest developments about the BECE and WASSCE.
These officials are expected to inform heads of Basic and Senior High Schools across the country to ensure candidates are adequately prepared for the national and international School Candidates examinations.
The Service in Charge of Pre-tertiary education in the country has similarly urged all relevant stakeholders in the education sector to take note of the dates and make the necessary arrangements to support candidates.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) responsible for the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate and West African Senior School Certificate Examination is expected to communicate the registration period to school heads at a later date.
BECE
This examination is both for certification and selection into Senior High Schools and Technical Institutes. The results of the examination are based on Continuous Assessment and the external examination.
The Continuous Assessment forms 30% whilst the external examination forms 70% of the total assessment.
Candidates in the third year of Junior High Schools (JHSs) approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES) are eligible to register to take part in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
WASSCE
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is administered to school candidates in the third year of Senior High School and to private candidates. The examination is for both selection to tertiary institutions and for certification.
