GES announces 1st-yr SHS/TVET students academic activities date
The Ghana Education Service (GES) following the release of the 2024 BECE graduates computerised school placement says first-year second-cycle school students will commence academic activities on November 7, 2024.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Ghana Education Service (GES) said Heads of all government second-cycle schools across the country are to begin registration and orientation on October 30, 2024.
“Out of the 563,339 results received from WAEC, 553,155 candidates qualified to be placed. A total of 447,698 (80.93%) qualified candidates have automatically been placed in one of their choices.
However, 104,918 qualified candidates could not be matched to any of their choices. Out of this number, 73,390 (13.27%) qualified candidates have been placed in schools similar to those they selected, and such students are at liberty to accept or reject the offer.
Once a student rejects the recommended school, he/she can select a school of their choice from the Self-Placement platform.
The total number of students placed in schools is 521,088, representing 94.20%. The students who were not placed must visit the Self-Placement platform to select a school of their choice.
Schools Selected on the Self-Placement Portal can be changed as many times as the candidate wishes until they enrol in a school.
To access the placement platform, students are to follow the steps below: Log on to the site www.cssps.gov.gh or www.cssps.org. Enter the ten-digit index number and add 24 as the year of completion. E.g., 123456789024,” it said in the statement.
Relatedly, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng says the October 30, 2024 date for 2024 BECE graduates to report to their various placed government second cycle schools is not compulsory.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of Education Kwasi Kwarteng said students from October 30, 2024, are to be in school for registration processes.
“Students are expected to go to school to begin the registration process which also goes through orientation. So it is not that if you do not go to school on October 30, 2024, you will lose your admission,” the MoE spokesman said.
Giving assurance that the second cycle school placement results will be out tonight, the Ministry of Education spokesperson said full academic activities will not commence on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
“Usually the tradition has been that the first and second week they go through the registration and orientation processes and familiarize themselves with the school environment then after a couple of weeks full academic activities begin,” he noted.
