GES give date for BECE 2024 second cycle school selection process

The public second cycle school selection by 2024 final year Junior High School students will commence after the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced.
In a statement shared with Pretertiary.com, the Ghana Education Service (GES) said it will communicate details of the 2024 second-cycle school selection process and computerized school selection and placement system in due course.
“Parents, candidates and the general public are informed that the school selection process will commence after the BECE. Details of the selection process will be communicated in due course,” the Service said in the press statement.
The selection process allows BECE candidates to choose their preferred second-cycle schools in consultation with their parents/guardians and their school authorities, using the school register provided by the Ghana Education Service.
The Senior High/Technical School (SHTS) school selection form must be signed off by a parent/guardian and submitted to the candidate’s Junior High School headteacher. The parents/guardians of the candidate must keep a copy.
After the selection is done, the head of the Junior High School will submit the candidate information or selection to the District Exam Officers to upload the data into the database of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) platform.
Last year, the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Ghana Education Service (GES) developed an informative video on the school selection guidelines to help BECE students make the best choice of their selection for placement.
The second cycle school selection guidelines video was featured in schools and extensively broadcasted on various television networks across the country.
The Senior High School (SHS0 video and the selection form were also accessible on the official website of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat at www.freeshs.net.
In 2023, the management of the Ghana Education Service commenced showing of school selection guidelines Video from August 21st to August 25th, 2023 with the school selection period from August 23rd to September 4th, 2023.
This year, a total of 569,095 candidates representing 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools participated in the BECE for School which commenced on Monday, July 8 and ended on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females participated in the examination. fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals were used during the private examination.
A total of 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators were tasked by the West African Examinations Council to ensure the smooth conduct of the BECE for School held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
