GES releases 2024/2025 academic calendar for pre-tertiary schools

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) ahead of the results of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results has released the 2024/2025 academic calendar for pre-tertiary schools in the country.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director for the Schools and Instruction Division, Prince C. Agyemang-Duah stated that the new academic year will begin on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, for all Senior High Schools.
The Ghana Education Service in the statement sighted by Pretertiary.com noted that first-year students in single-track and transitional schools will end the current academic year on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The 2024/2025 academic year for pre-tertiary schools it said begins on Wednesday, October 30, for incoming first-year second-cycle school students in single-track and transitional schools and all continuing students in single-track schools.
“The academic year begins on Wednesday, 30th October, 2024 for all Senior High Schools. Please note that the current first-year students in transitional calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, October 28, 2024, and be promoted to Form Two (2) to continue with the new academic year immediately.
Incoming first-year students for single-track and transitional schools will also begin school on Wednesday, 30th October 2024. Additionally, all continuing students in single track schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, 30th October 2024,” part of the statement read.
The Education Service statement added, “This re-opening date aims to ensure that the school calendar starts in September next year and paves the way for our final year students to write their 2025/2026 WASSCE in May/June.”
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed all Regional Directors to communicate the academic calendar for 2024/2025 to heads of pre-tertiary schools across the country to ensure smooth implementation.
Following the release of the 2024/2025 academic calendar for Basic and Senior High Schools, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is expected to release the results of students who sat for this year’s BECE in October 2024.
A total of 569,095 candidates representing 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools participated in the BECE for School which commenced on Monday, July 8, and ended on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females participated in the examination. fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals were used during the private examination.
The West African Examinations Council tasked 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators to ensure the smooth conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination for School held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
