GES releases first-year SHS students day, boarders 2025 prospectus

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has released a harmonized national prospectus for Day and Boarding first-year students in various government and public second-cycle schools.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, GES said the items of the national prospectus are must-haves, adding that all personal items should be embossed or embroidered with the student’s name.
The computer second-cycle school (SHS/TVET) placement results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) students were released on September 17, 2025, at 8:00 pm.
This year, a total of 590,309 BECE candidates qualified for second-cycle school (SHS/TVET) placement. Out of this, 483,800 were placed automatically, while 107,000 secured schools through self-placement.
Deputy Education Minister, Dr Clement Apaak, at a press briefing, said 483,800 BECE graduates secured automatic second-cycle school placement, 234,783, representing 48.6% were boys, and 248,038, representing 51.4% were girls.
He indicated that 82 per cent (82%) of qualified students who sat for the 2025 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been placed in their first-choice second-cycle schools.
According to Dr Clement Abas Apaak, 49 out of 70 private Senior High Schools (private SHSs) have been made available for self-placement at the Computerized School Selection and Placement System.
The SHS/TVET placement results of the over 600,000 BECE graduates were based on 5 sets of data, namely the school register, master file or bio file, choice file, vacancy file, and results file.
Unlike previous years, students used to print the prospectus along with the school placement and enrolment slip at the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal; it was not the case this year.
The prospectus described last year as a national or harmonized prospectus outlines the requirements or items all first-year students in the country will need after being given admission into their placed second-cycle school.
The National or harmonized prospectus guides parents of students continuing their education at the secondary level to buy their ward’s items required by the secondary school they were placed into.
Last year, the national prospectus was in three categories, with each subdivided into basic needs and cleaning materials to make it easier for parents. It is currently unclear how this academic year will be.
This year, GES has slated October 18, 2025, as the date for 2025 BECE graduates to report to their respective second-cycle schools placed by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, it said the October 18, 2025, reporting date for first-year students for the 2025/2026 academic calendar applies to single-track and transitional second-cycle schools.
This year, a total of 603,328 candidates, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females, from nineteen thousand, five hundred and five (19,505) Junior High Schools (JHSs) entered for the school examination.
This includes seventy-two (72 ) candidates with visual impairment, two hundred and thirty-nine (239) with hearing impairment, and one hundred and sixty-one (161) candidates with other test accommodation needs.
The examination was conducted at two thousand, two hundred and thirty-seven (2,237 ) centres across the country. Out of the total number, two thousand, five hundred and twenty-six (2,526) candidates were absent.
The BECE for Private Candidates recorded a total entry figure of one thousand, three hundred and ninety (1,661) candidates. This was made up of eight hundred and fifty-eight (858) males and eight hundred and three (803 ) females.
Fifteen (15) centres, mostly in the regional capitals, were used for the BECE for Private Candidates. Out of the total number of candidates who entered for the examination, fifty-seven (57) were absent.
