GES sacks KNUST SHS Assistant Head for fondling student’s breast

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has sacked the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, for what it described as a compromised position with a female student.
In a viral video trending on various social media platforms, the former KNUST Assistant Headmaster of Academic is seen touching the breast of a female student at a place identified as his office.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Ghana Education Service said it views the action of Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo as a serious threat to the teaching profession and the safety of students in the school.
“Management views this matter with utmost seriousness. In line with our commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the safety and welfare of students under our care.
Mr. Aidoo has already been removed from office and prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being carried out,” the statement signed by GES Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, said.
It has assured the general public, stakeholders, parents, and students that due process will be followed, and the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the code of conduct of the Ghana Education Service.
“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students,” it stated.
Speaking in an interview, the spokesperson for the Ghana Education Service (GES) said the matter involving the female student has been referred to the counselling and guidance department of the Service.
Daniel Fenyi said that, although the video featuring the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) SHS female student is trending with her face visible, counseling will be provided to her.
The KNUST Senior High School is a co-educational institution in Kumasi, Ghana. The school’s nickname, in the Akan language, is Mmadwemma, meaning “people who carefully think before acting”. Its motto is “Forward be our watchword”. Approximately 600 students graduate each year.
Previously, Technology Secondary School, now KNUST Senior High School, was founded in February 1961 by the late Dr. R. P. Baffour, the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, to provide Secondary/Technical Education for students who would eventually enter the University.
KNUST SHS, established within the university enclave, currently has a population of nearly 4,000 students and continues to record academic successes despite its infrastructure challenges.
According to the KNUST SHS Headmaster, Headmaster Anthony Duodu-Antwi Boasiako, from 2021 to 2023, the percentage of graduates who qualify for tertiary education stood at 61 percent in 2021, 67.6 percent in 2022, and 73 percent in 2023.
Speaking at the school’s 65th anniversary celebrations, Mr Anthony Duodu-Antwi Boasiako said, “The highest score in the history of the school was 76.8, which occurred in 2016. This year, we intend to break this record.”
The event, themed “Celebrating 65 Years of Discipline and Responsible Behaviour: A Pathway to Sustainable National Development”, also addressed broader concerns about the pressures facing modern education.
