Haruna Iddrisu to be Minister of Education in Mahama’s next Govt
Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South has been tipped to be appointed as the Minister of Education in President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s second term of government effective January 2025.
He is expected to take over the Education Minister role from the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum who was appointed as Education Minister in Akufo-Addo’s second term government.
An Asaase News source close to the President-elect who disclosed Haruna Iddrisu as Ghana’s next Education Minister said there are a total of only 60 ministerial and deputy ministerial slots including 16 regional slots to be filled in Mahama’s second administration.
The source also said Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku, is likely to be named the Majority Leader with John Jinapor for Energy, Armah Kofi Buah for Lands and Natural Resources, and Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister of Finance.
It further disclosed that though the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank are pushing for Seth Terkper Seth Terkper to be named as the Finance Minister, he is likely to be made the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
“Miss Zanetor Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle will most likely serve as the Minister for Health. The Minister for Foreign Affairs role is between Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa and Miss Valerie Sawyer.
However, Okudjeto Ablakwa is likely to get the nod because those close to the President-elect John Dramani Mahama argue that the government is better off having Ablakwa out of the way and not causing mischief,” the source stated.
