Haruna Iddrisu replaces Dr Y. Adutwum as new Education Minister

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader in Parliament, Minister for Communications, and Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, to serve as the Minister in Charge of Education.
This comes after His Excellency John Mahama submitted the names of the individuals to Parliament through the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin Sumana Kingsford to serve as Regional and Sector Ministers.
In President John Dramani Mahama’s second batch of regional and sector ministers nominees list sighted by Pretertiary.com, three government officials were named Regional Ministers and 9 as Ministers of State.
The three individuals to serve as Regional Ministers are Wilbert Petty Brentum from the Western North region, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere from the Central region and Jospeh Nelson from the Western region.
The nine Ministers of State are Kwame Governs Agbodza for the Ministry of Roads and Highways, Eric Opoku for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Agnes Naa MoMo Lartey for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
Others include Abla Dzifa Gomashie for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Emelia Arthur for the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and George Opare-Addo for the Ministry of Youth and Development and Education.
The rest are Haruna Iddrisu for the Ministry of Education, Ahmed Ibrahim for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftancy and Religious Affairs, and Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare for the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
Profile of Haruna Iddrisu
Haruna Iddrisu, born 8 September 1970 in Tamale, is the Member of Parliament for Tamale South and the former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations in Ghana. He is also currently the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament.
He attended the University of Ghana between 1993 and 1997, where he obtained the B.A Hons in Sociology. He was active in student politics and was the President of the National Union of Ghana Students during his final year. Iddrisu is also a barrister and has been a member of the Ghana Bar Association since 2002.
Haruna Iddrisu is the Minority Leader of the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic in Ghana. Iddrisu has been the National Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress since 2002. He stood for parliament in the 2004 Parliamentary elections in the newly formed Tamale South constituency.
He retained his seat in the 2008 parliamentary elections. He has held various positions in government, including Minister for Communications under the Mills and Mahama governments, as well as Minister for Trade between 2013 and 2014.
He was appointed the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations by President Mahama in July 2014.
