MoE releases ‘GH¢9.5m’ to settle NSMQ arrears from 2023 to date

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has released GH¢9.5 million to enable public Senior High Schools (SHSs) to prepare students for the 2025 edition of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ).
The release of the amount comes after the CHASS, in a letter to Primetime Limited, the organizers of NSMQ, said the various Senior High Schools will not participate in the Science and Mathematics Quiz due ot a lack of funds to enable their preparations for the competition scheduled to start in October 2025.
“Schools will not be able to participate in the ballotting and subsequently, the Quiz competition due to non-availability of funds to schools to mobilize and organize their students to take part,” the letter signed by the National Secretary, Baro Primus, stated.
However, the Education Minister says his outfit has released GH¢9.5 million to Primetime Limited, the organizers of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), to settle outstanding arrears from 2023 to date.
In a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Hashim Haruna, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to promoting science and mathematics education through consistent financial support and broader participation.
“The Ministry of Education has released an amount of GH¢9.5 million to Primetime Company to clear all the arrears owed to the organizers of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz competition,” the statement read.
The Ministry of Education also announced that the 2025 edition of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) will now include more Senior High Schools (SHSs).
