MoE PRO gives new date for 2024 delayed WASSCE results release
The Ministry of Education (MoE) after further engagement with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a deadline for the not-for-profit organization to release the delayed WASSCE results.
MoE spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng who gave WASSCE results release date in a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com said “2024 WASSCE results are scheduled to be released on or before the 29th of December 2024.”
Kwarteng’s assurance comes after he earlier said the government through his outfit has released an amount of GH₵25 million of the outstanding GH₵118 million debt owed to it to facilitate the process of the examination results.
In a social media post, the Education Ministry Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the release of the GH₵25 million forms part of the government’s commitment to ensure WAEC releases the WASSCE results soon.
“The Ministry of Education has released an additional GH₵25 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to support its operations and ensure the smooth and seamless continuation of marking activities.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has assured the Ministry that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be released soon,” Kwasi Kwarteng said in the post.
Meanwhile, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s payment of GH¢25 million of the outstanding GH¢118 million debt it owed the Council to facilitate WASSCE results release.
A spokeman for the not-for-profit organization speaking to the media said WAEC the payment is grossly inadequate to facilitate the release of the delayed 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
“Obviously, that [the GH¢25 million] was just a drop in the ocean as far as the amount of money required for the job we are supposed to do is concerned,” the Head of Public Relations of WAEC, John Kapi told journalists.
The West African Examinations Council on August 5, 2024, commenced the administration of the 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates and ended it on Friday, September 20, 2024.
A total of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 boys and 247,657 girls, presented by 1,003 second-cycle schools participated in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination administrated at 1,000 centres across the country.
