NTC announces region to host 2025 edition of Ghana Teacher Prize

This year’s Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP), an award scheme instituted to honour outstanding teachers annually, will be held in Ho in the Volta Region, the National Teaching Council (NTC) has said.
The 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize will be hosted in Ho, Volta Region, from October 3rd to 5th. The National Teaching Council (NTC) announced that the event will be held in Ho, celebrating the nation’s educators.
The National Teaching Council (NTC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, launched the 2025 edition of the Ghana Teacher Prize in Accra on the theme: “Elevating the status of teachers for quality education.”
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, launched the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize, describing the annual event as a celebration of “dedication, sacrifice and continuous service” by Ghanaian teachers.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the minister stressed that the quality of education is inseparable from the quality of teachers, adding that Ghana’s progress in human capital development depends on sustained investment in educators.
Mr Iddrisu pledged that the government would continue to improve the conditions of service and welfare for teachers, including enhanced training opportunities, infrastructure support, and housing initiatives.
The Education Minister highlighted plans for new modern school blocks, expanded access to pre-tertiary teacher education, and the recruitment of thousands of new teachers to meet classroom demands.
“You cannot value education without valuing teachers. The Ghana Teacher Prize is not just an event, it is a reminder that our nation’s future rests on the shoulders of dedicated men and women in our classrooms,” the minister said.
Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, speaking at the Ghana Teacher Prize launch, said, “We appreciate you today, we appreciate you tomorrow, and we will appreciate you forever for your tremendous sacrifices,” he said.
This year’s Prize, which will be held in October, is on the theme: “Elevating the Status of the Teacher for Quality Education.”
The annual event, formerly known as the Best Teacher’s Award, recognises the contribution of hardworking and selfless teachers towards the improvement of education in the country through teacher-based innovation.
The National Teaching Council (NTC) opened applications and nominations for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) in March and closed them in June. In all, 30 individuals were nominated.
The National Teacher Prize was open to all professionally trained teachers who were currently working in educational institutions, both public and private, and had served for at least five years.
Applicants were assessed against rigorous criteria designed to identify extraordinary teachers and educational workers who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.
Since its inception in 1995, the Ghana Teacher Prize has served as the country’s flagship platform to honour outstanding educators, many of whom have gone on to win recognition at continental and global teacher awards.
The 2025 edition, scheduled for October, will once again spotlight teachers whose work continues to shape Ghana’s education system, which currently supports more than 9.5 million learners across basic and secondary schools.
