NTC asked to revoke license of ‘sacked’ KNUST SHS Assistant head

The Executive Director of the Institute of Education Studies (IFEST), Dr Peter Anti, has called on the National Teaching Council (NTC) to revoke the teaching license of the Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School after he was dismissed by the Ghana Education Service for fondling a female student.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, the IFEST Executive Director said the dismissed KNUST Assistant Head’s teaching license should be revoked to serve as a deterrent to other head teachers.
Dr Peter Anti also urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to conduct further investigation into sexual harassment conduct at the KNUST Senior High School, saying “it seems to occur frequently.”
“Teachers are entrusted with the care of children because they are professionally trained, but that trust is broken when they harass their students,” the Institute of Education Studies (IFEST) Director stated.
The Educationist added, “If students feel comfortable using phones around teachers, it suggests that authorities at the KNUST Senior High School (SHS) are enabling indiscipline in the school.”
His comment comes after the Ghana Education Service (GES) removed the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST Senior High School, Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, for what it described as a compromised position with a female student.
In a viral video trending on various social media platforms, the former KNUST Assistant Headmaster of Academic is seen touching the breast of a female student at a place identified as his office.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Ghana Education Service said it views the action of Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo as a serious threat to the teaching profession and the safety of students in the school.
“Management views this matter with utmost seriousness, in line with our commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the teaching profession and ensuring the safety and welfare of students under our care.
Mr. Aidoo has already been removed from office and prohibited from going to the school while thorough investigations are being carried out,” the statement signed by GES Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, said.
It has assured the general public, stakeholders, parents, and students that due process will be followed, and the appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the code of conduct of the Ghana Education Service.
“The GES remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and child protection in all our schools. We strongly condemn any acts that compromise the safety, dignity, and well-being of students,” it stated.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer for GES has said that the Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of KNUST SHS has been removed from his position to avoid compromising the investigation process, but he hasn’t been dismissed.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, the GES spokesperson, Daniel Fenyi, encouraged students to immediately report to authorities if any teacher makes inappropriate advances towards them.
He also cautioned that no matter how teachers or teaching staff may perceive students as stubborn, they must never engage them in any sexual or romantic activities.
