NTC to air docmentary on 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize finalists event
The management of the National Teaching Council (NTC) following the just-ended 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) awards has announced to air a documentary on the 2023 edition of the Ghana Teacher Prize finalists event.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Council said the film on Ghana’s Most Outstanding Teacher will be broadcast on various Television stations in the country including Joy News, Adom TV and Joy Prime.
The Ghana Teacher Prize finalists event documentary according to NTC will be aired on Joy News from October 19, 2024, to Monday, October 21, 2024, Saturday, October 19 and 20 on Joy Prime and October 20 on Adom TV.
In 2023, Faith Aku Dzakpasu, a teacher at the Greta D Shepherd 2 Basic School in the Ga Central District of the Greater Accra Region was adjudged the winner of that year’s Ghana Teacher Prize.
Faith Aku received a three-bedroom house worth GHS450,000 as well as a ‘promotion out of turn,’ an educational trip to Singapore, GHS1,000,000 life insurance and a scholarship for further studies as her prize as winner of the GTP.
Greta D Shepherd 2 Basic School teacher expressed joy and gratitude at the recognition and honour done to her and encouraged her colleagues to work hard to receive similar rewards in the future.
Madam Isabella Wussah-Tetteh, a teacher at Sege D/A Primary and Kindergarten (KG), Greater Accra Region, emerged as First Runner-up, and her prizes were a 4×4 pick-up vehicle, scholarship and promotion out of turn.
Mr Fredous Iddi-Amin, from the Ogbojo Presbyterian Basic School, in the Greater Accra Region, emerged Second Runner-up and received a saloon car, scholarship and promotion out of turn.
Mr Benjamin Semenyo Lifeson, a tutor at the Presbyterian College of Education in the Eastern Region, was adjudged the Best College of Education Tutor and received a 4×4 pick-up vehicle.
Mr Abraham Fletcher, Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Director of Education in the Western North Region, got a saloon car, life insurance and a trip to Singapore as his prizes for emerging the Best Teacher in Leadership and Administration.
Mr Andrews Danso, a Principal Administrative Officer at the Apersua Community Senior High School in the Eastern Region, was adjudged Best Non-Teaching Staff, and his prizes were a saloon car, life insurance and a trip to Singapore.
Other award winners included Madam Racheal Afriyie, a teacher at Pabi M/A Primary School in the Eastern Region, who was the Best KG Teacher, Madam Barikisu Suleiman, from Answaru-Deen Islamic Basic School, Greater Accra Region; Best Primary School Teacher.
Mr Jibiliru Amadu Nankpa, from TUTCO Demonstration Basic School in the Upper West Region, was the Best Junior High School Teacher, with Mr Peter Adu-Boahene, of the Kumasi Technical Institute, being the Best Senior High and Technical School (SHTS) Teacher. Mr Sayibu Yakubu, a teacher at the Yendi Senior High School, won the Best SHS Teacher.
The Ghana Teachers Prize (GTP) aims to celebrate and honour teachers and education workers for their efforts in contributing to Ghana’s education sector.
The Prize is open to all professionally trained and licensed teachers currently working in the pre-tertiary education space (both public and private) and who have been teaching for not less than five (5) years.
The categories for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize included:
1. Teaching (Pre-tertiary)
2. Teacher in Administration and Leadership (Pre-tertiary)
3. Non-Teaching (Pre-tertiary)
4. Best College Tutor (College of Education)
Applications for the Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) are judged based on a rigorous set of criteria to select teachers who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.
