Parliament announces its Select Committee on Education members

The Parliament of Ghana has appointed seventeen (17) government officials to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education as part of an effort to improve the country’s education sector.
The appointments of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education members come after the House announced the leadership of several key parliamentary committees with members appointed to oversee critical sectors of governance, including Finance, Health, Defence, and Education, amongst others.
These leaders of the Parliamentary Committees which include both government and opposition members will spearhead discussions and scrutinise important bills, budgetary allocations, and national programmes.
The Committee on Education, consisting of a Chairperson, Ranking Member, Vice Chairperson, Deputy Ranking Member, and no more than thirteen other Members, oversees matters related to education.
Its jurisdiction encompasses investigating and inquiring into the activities and administration of ministries, departments, and agencies within its purview, including the examination of legislative proposals.
Having served as the Ranking Member of the Parliament Select Committee on Education from 2017 to late 2024, Hon Peter Nortsu Kotoe, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi North Constituency is now the Chairman of the Education Select Committee of Parliament.
The government has also appointed Hon. Joseph Kwame Kumah, Member of Parliament for Kintampo North as the Vice Chairman of the Education Select Committee of Parliament having served as a member while in opposition.
Former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has been appointed as the Ranking Member for the Education Select Committee of Parliament.
Hon Mustapha Ussif, Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori Constituency has similarly been appointed to serve as the Deputy Ranking Member for the Education Select Committee of Parliament.
The thirteen members are: Hon Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe – Member of Parliament for Ada constituency, Hon Solomon Kuyon – Member of Parliament for Krachi-Nchumuru, Hon Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan – Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Edem Richmond Kofi Kpotosu – Member of Parliament for Ho Central.
Others are: Hon Eric Edem Agbana – Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Hon Nasira Afrah Gyekye – Member of Parliament for Sekyere Afram Plains, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy – Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Hon. Dominic Napare – Member of Parliament for Sene East.
The rest include: Hon. Ernestina Ofori Dangbey – Member of Parliament for Agona West, Mohammed Bawa Braimah – Member of Parliament for Ejura-Sekyedumase, Hon John Fordjour Ntim – Member of Parliament for Assin South, Hon Patricia Appiagyei – Member of Parliament for Asokwa and Hon Fred Kyei Asamoah – Member of Parliament for Offinso North.
