Primetime Limited, the producer of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) hall launched the 2024 edition of the national championship of the competition.
During the launch and balloting, Primetime disclosed that a total of 157 schools including private Senior High Schools had been seeded to participate in the competition, marking a significant milestone for the NSMQ introduced in 1993.
Currently, 27-second cycle schools have already booked their slot in the one-eighth stage of the national championship as 130 schools gear up for the preliminary stage, eager to begin their journey in this prestigious intellectual battle.
After the one-eighth stage, the successful schools will move on to the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the 2024 National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) which will be held at the prestigious SGS Auditorium.
The grand finale of the NSMQ will be hosted at the New Education Centre (NEC), where the ultimate champion will be crowned. This year’s edition will have over 15 prizes, awards and scholarships for outstanding performers and participants.
Launched by the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Stephen Kwaku Owusu this academic year’s NSMQ, will be held for the first time in Cape Coast in the Central Region from October 14 to October 30, 2024.
Speaking at the event, the GES official called for more Senior High Schools, students and parents to embrace and explore the disciplines in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
“The NSMQ has proven to be a powerful platform for promoting STEM education and inspiring young minds. The Ministry of Education and GES encourage more schools to participate and seize this opportunity to showcase and improve the talents and knowledge of their students,” he said.
For her part, the Managing Director of Primetime Limited, Nana Akua Mensa-Bonsu, said her outfit still believed in the potential of the NSMQ to play a pivotal role in nurturing many more generations of students to become notable figures in STEM-related fields.
She congratulated all the participating government and private second-cycle schools, especially the regional and zonal champions as well as six schools which were making their first appearance at the championship.
Nana Mensa-Bonsu urged the participating Senior High Schools to recognise the Science and Mathematics competition not only as a platform for academic achievement and awards but also as a platform for unity and growth.
She further revealed that this year’s NSMQ participants would meet and learn from professionals in the fields of science and technology, as had been the status quo since the introduction of the Mentorship sessions under the STEM festival initiative by Primetime in 2013.
