Primetime to hold 2025 NSMQ quarter-finals behind closed doors

The organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Primetime Limited, say it will hold the quarter-finals of the Science and Mathematics contest between Mfantsipim School, Prempeh College and Adisadel College behind closed doors.
Primetime’s decision to hold the National Science and Maths Quiz quarter-final in private follows the disruption of the original schedule by school supporters, which led to the competition’s postponement.
In a statement, it explained that postponement had become necessary, following a disruption caused by an uncontrollable crowd that forced its way into the auditorium, despite several measures we had put in place to manage the numbers.
The contest, which was expected to be held on October 30 following the GSTS, PRESEC and Our Lady of Grace contests, had to be postponed when disturbances broke out among students from Adisadel and Mfantsipim at the venue.
The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) organisers were forced to halt proceedings after it became clear that security arrangements were not strong enough to control the situation.
In the statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, Primetime Limited said the rescheduled National Science and Maths Quiz quarter-final contest will take place today, October 31, but behind closed doors.
It indicated that only the contestants, their coordinators, the Primetime production team and the quiz officials will be allowed in. The specific time will be communicated privately to the schools involved.
“We wish to assure you that Primetime places a premium on ensuring the protection of life and property at all times and that we shall continue to do all we can to provide a safe environment for all who participate in our competitions,” the NSMQ organisers said in the statement dated October 30, 2025.
This year, a total of record-breaking 174 Senior High Schools, including private and government second-cycle schools, qualified to compete in the national championship of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz.
Included in the 174 record-making figure are 27 seeded Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the 2024 edition of the NSMQ, 106 regional qualifier winners, 32 top-runners-up, and nine private Senior High Schools.
