Primetime to ‘postpone’ 2025 NSMQ launch and prelims balloting

The launch and preliminary stage balloting of the 2025 edition of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) scheduled for today, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, are likely to be postponed.
The postponement of the Tuesday launch and prelims balloting may be possible following the withdrawal of all Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country from participating in the NSMQ. produced by Primetime Limited, as announced by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).
In a letter to the NSMQ organisers sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Conference of Heads of Secondary Schools said the various Senior High Schools’ withdrawal from the Science and Mathematics Quiz is due ot a lack of funds to enable their preparations for the competition scheduled to start in October 2025.
“Schools will not be able to participate in the ballotting and subsequently, the Quiz competition due to non-availability of funds to schools to mobilise and organise their students to take part,” the letter signed by the National Secretary, Baro Primus, stated.
Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), however, assured Science and Mathematics Quiz organisers that the decision could be reversed if funds are released by the government in time.
“We want to assure the organisers that, as soon as the government releases funds for that purpose, CHASS will review its position and communicate to you accordingly,” CHASS said in the letter.
Meanwhile, Primetime Limited has yet to release an official communication regarding the postponement of the 2025 National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) launch and preliminary stage balloting.”
However, Primetime has said that the NSMQ preliminary stage will be held on October 13 to 17, one-eight on October 19 to 21, the quarter-final on October 23 to 25, the semi-final on October 27, and the grand finale on October 30, 2025.
This year, a total of 174 Senior High Schools (SHSs) have qualified to participate in the 2025 edition of the national championship of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ) competition.
Included in the 174 record-making figure are 27 seeded Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the 2024 edition of the NSMQ, 106 regional qualifier winners, 32 top-runners-up, and nine private Senior High Schools.
Primetime Limited says the national championship of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) will be held in Cape Coast, in the Central Region of Ghana, at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
