Prof Yayra Dzakadzie appointed as new Director-General of NaCCA

President Akufo-Addo has appointed Prof Yayra Dzakadzie as the new Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). Yayra’s appointment letter, referenced as O/5101/1/24/594, was dated June 24, 2024.
A statement from the Office of the President sighted by Pretertiary.com said the new NaCCA Director-General appointment is in accordance with Section 107(1) and (2)(a) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023).
Prof. Dzakadzie will serve as the Director-General of the National Curriculum Council, pending the receipt of the constitutionally required advice from the Governing Board of the Council, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
He takes over from Professor Edward Appiah who was appointed the Director-General for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) under the Ministry of Education (MoE) in November 2021.
Prof Yayra’s appointment comes after NaCCA on July 2, 2024, held a handing-over ceremony, marking a new chapter in its leadership as Prof. Edward Appiah passed the baton to Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, the newly appointed Director-General.
In his last remark, Prof. Edward Appiah, who led NaCCA with distinction and dedication, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and highlighted the achievements and milestones reached during his tenure in office.
He thanked the staff of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), stakeholders, and partners for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing education in Ghana.
In his statement, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie acknowledged the remarkable contributions of his predecessor and outlined his vision for the future. He highlighted the need for strong leadership, strategic planning, and fostering a culture of inclusivity and transparency.
He emphasized the importance of continuity, innovation, and collaboration in driving NaCCA’s mission forward. Prof. Dzakadzie called for the collective efforts of all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of educational reforms and curriculum development.
The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment Management extended their heartfelt appreciation to Prof. Edward Appiah for his exemplary service and warmly welcomed Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie as he assumed his new role as Director-General.
Profile of Prof Yayra Dzakadzie
After passing out as a professional teacher from the E.P. College of Education he taught at the various levels of education to the highest as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies, University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
After being in the classroom for a while, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie proceeded to the University of Cape Coast for his first degree.
After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree with First Class, Prof. Dzakadzie returned to the same university to obtain a Master of Philosophy in Measurement and Evaluation.
He further acquired his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast, winning the Dean’s Award of Excellence for presenting an outstanding thesis in his area of study.
Prof. Dzakadzie was a tutor at Ada College of Education, Ada-Foah, in the Greater Accra Region before leaving for the university as an Assistant Lecturer in the then Department of Psychology and Education- University of Education, Winneba.
He rose through the ranks to his current rank of an Associate Professor in Measurement, Evaluation, Research and Statistics.
At a point, he was lecturing at three universities in Ghana, made up of the UCC, UEW, and Valley View University, Oyibi. He is also an external examiner for many doctoral thesis and MPhil thesis for some universities locally and internationally.
Prof. Dzakadzie has presented papers at both local and international conferences and recently was adjudged the best presenter at the World Partial Least Square (PLS) conference in Romania.
He was also the Research Fellow attached to the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP)- a World Bank Project.
Aside from being the Director for Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, Prof. Dzakadzie was the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Education on tertiary education.
