Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie ‘dismissed’ as the Director-General of NaCCA

Professor Yayra Dzakadzie has been relieved of his duties as the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). His dismissal comes barely 11 months after his appointment as Director-General on June 24, 2024.
The immediate past Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment was appointed by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, pursuant to Section 107(1) and (2)(a) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023).
Prof Yara took over from Professor Edward Appiah, who was appointed the Director-General for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) under the Ministry of Education (MoE) in November 2021.
As the reason for his dismissal is currently unknown, Professor Yayea Dzakadzie was relieved of his duties as the NaCCA Director-General on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama.
No official explanation has yet been provided by the Ministry of Education (MoE) or the Office of the President regarding the reasons for his dismissal.
Before being appointed NaCCA Director-General, Prof. Dzakadzie held prominent roles within the education sector, including Deputy Director General for the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and Director for Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education.
Profile of Prof Yayra Dzakadzie
After passing out as a professional teacher from the E.P. College of Education he taught at the various levels of education to the highest as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies, University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
After being in the classroom for a while, Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie proceeded to the University of Cape Coast for his first degree.
After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree with First Class, Prof. Dzakadzie returned to the same university to obtain a Master of Philosophy in Measurement and Evaluation.
He further acquired his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Measurement and Evaluation from the University of Cape Coast, winning the Dean’s Award of Excellence for presenting an outstanding thesis in his area of study.
Prof. Dzakadzie was a tutor at Ada College of Education, Ada-Foah, in the Greater Accra Region before leaving for the university as an Assistant Lecturer in the then Department of Psychology and Education- University of Education, Winneba.
He rose through the ranks to his current rank of an Associate Professor in Measurement, Evaluation, Research and Statistics.
At a point, he was lecturing at three universities in Ghana, made up of the UCC, UEW, and Valley View University, Oyibi. He is also an external examiner for many doctoral thesis and MPhil thesis for some universities locally and internationally.
Prof. Dzakadzie has presented papers at both local and international conferences and recently was adjudged the best presenter at the World Partial Least Square (PLS) conference in Romania.
He was also the Research Fellow attached to the Ministry of Education (MoE) for the Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP)- a World Bank Project.
Aside from being the Director for Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, Prof. Dzakadzie was the Technical Adviser to the Minister of Education on tertiary education.
