WAEC asked to publish SHSs involved in 2023 WASSCE malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been asked to publish the names of Senior High Schools (SHSs) reported to be involved in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School (WASSCE) malpractice last year.
Africa Education Watch’s request to WAEC comes after the Exams Council told Parliament it has adopted naming and shaming of schools involved in examination malpractice as one of its remedial measures to discourage cheating.
“In their June 8, 2024 presentation to Parliament, The West African Examinations Council – WAEC, GHANA submitted that, among others, the naming and shaming of schools involved in examination malpractice was one of its remedial measures to discourage the menace.
Pursuant to WAEC’s own remedial strategy, amid the reports of collusion planning taking place in some schools ahead of 2024 WASSCE, I urge WAEC to publish all names of schools that were involved in examination malpractice in 2023 WASSCE,” the Director of the Watch, Mr Kofi Asare said in a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com.
Relatedly, Africa Education Watch following the conduct of this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination is calling for volunteers to join their monitoring team to monitor the International examination at various centres.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, Executive Director of the Watch, Kofi Asare said the education think tank is remobilizing to monitor the 2024 WASSCE for School slated for August in private and public schools nationwide.
The Education Watch official indicated that secondary school workers with integrity and concern for ensuring a free, fair and transparent West African Senior School Certificate Examination are fit for the monitoring exercise
“If you are a secondary school worker with integrity and concern for ensuring credible external assessment, join Eduwatch’s WASSCE Monitoring Team by sending your name and school to WhatsApp number 0303975001 (strictly confidential)
The Eduwatch WASSCE Monitoring Coordinator will revert within 10 working days to communicate the outcome of a Due Diligence exercise on your request,” the Director of Education Policy Research and Advocacy Organization said.
Mr Kofi Asare added, “Kindly note that the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Monitoring is voluntary. There shall be no financial reward or reimbursement for any costs incurred by monitors.”
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is administered to school candidates in the third year of Senior High School and to private candidates. The examination is for both selection to tertiary institutions and for certification.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is conducted twice a year – May/June for school candidates only and in September/October for private candidates.
The results of the examination are released in July to enable successful and qualified candidates to enter tertiary institutions at the beginning of the academic year.
The results lists are sent to the participating schools. Candidates can also check their results online with an access card at www.waecgh.org.
