WAEC awaits GH¢118m from MoE for post 2024 WASSCE activities
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it is awaiting the release of an outstanding GH¢118 million from the Ministry of Education to complete post-West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) activities.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, WAEC said the outstanding balance of GH¢118,000,000.00 if received will be used to repair breakdown scanners for marking objective sheets of the candidates who sat for the 2024 WASSCE for School.
The organization indicated that the scanning of the 2024 WASSCE for School objective cards which was scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, is yet to be completed due to the breakdown of scanners used for the process.
“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post examination processes to continue smoothly,” it said in the statement.
The not-for-profit-making organization also appealed to its cherished examination officials and suppliers to exercise restraint as payment for their services will be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education.
“Members of the public are urged to ignore information circulating on Social Media purporting to be dates for the release of results. The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved,” WAEC added.
The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on August 5, 2024, commenced the administration of the 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
The examination successfully ended on Friday, September 20, 2024. The marking of the essays and other practical components of the papers which commenced on Friday, November 7 ended on Friday, November 29, 2024.
A total of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 boys and 247,657 girls, presented by 1,003 second-cycle schools registered for the examination. The 2024 WASSCE for School was administrated at 1,000 centres across the country.
In a related development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has scheduled the second week of December this year as the deadline to release the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School results.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi said his outfit is expected to release the provisional results of the 2024 WASSCE between December 9, 2024, to December 15, 2024.
