WAEC gives date to release 2024 BECE for School & Private results
By mid-October 2024, a spokesman for the West African Examinations Council has said that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School & Private results of candidates who sat for the national examination will be out.
Describing the October BECE for School and Private results release date as tentative, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi in an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com said his outfit is working tirelessly to meet the deadline.
“Marking of the BECE scripts is ongoing and tentatively we are looking at the first weekend of October normally we give ourselves a grace period of 7 days so by the middle of October the 2024 BECE results should be out,” he stated.
Asked if the government had released adequate funds to the Examinations Council, Kapi replied yes adding that plans are far advanced for all examiners, invigilators and supervisors who were engaged to oversee this academic year’s BECE.
Relatedly, the Deputy Minister of Education, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour says this academic year’s BECE and WASSCE results of candidates will be released as scheduled by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
“As I speak to you now, the government has just released part of the amount owed the WAEC, to enable it to continue with its process of conducting and releasing the final examination results on schedule,” the Education Minister said.
Speaking after monitoring the ongoing WASSCE at the Labone Senior High School, Reverend Ntim Fordjour said that, being aware that WAEC works within a certain timeframe, the government would not do anything that would derail its timetable.
A total of 569,095 candidates representing 282,648 males and 286,447 females from 19,506 private and public Junior High Schools participated in the BECE for School which commenced on Monday, July 8, and ended on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Regarding BECE for Private Candidates, about 1,366 candidates, comprising 735 males and 631 females participated in the examination. fifteen (15) centres, mainly in the regional capitals were used during the private examination.
The West African Examinations Council tasked 2,123 supervisors, 1,889 assistant supervisors and 19,973 invigilators to ensure the smooth conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination for School held in 2,123 centres nationwide.
