WAEC reveals deadline to complete the 2024 BECE scripts marking
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) mid-October this year will complete the BECE scripts marking, a spokesperson for the not-for-profit-making organization, John Kapi said in an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com.
Speaking on the JoyNews The Pulse show, Mr Kapi said after ending the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination and Basic Education Certificate Examination, his outfit is now focused on the examinations scripts marking.
“We just started with the marking of the Basic Education Certificate Examination scripts and that will take us up to the middle of October and right after we will release the results of the BECE,” the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC stated.
He said after the release of the provisional results of the Junior High School (JHS) students who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination, the Council will commence the marking of the 2024 WASSCE for School scripts.
“After the release of the BECE results we are going to go into the marking of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates and when that is done we will be conducting the WASSCE for Private Candidates,” he noted.
The marking of the 2024 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Private and School scripts was earlier scheduled to begin in August 2024 but was postponed to September 2024.
The Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe said the delay of the BECE scripts marking was due to the central government’s inability to release funds to WAEC to enable them to begin the process.
“The delay in marking has resulted in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) postponing the marking of scripts from this month to September, which will disrupt the school calendar,” Peter Nortsu-Kotoe told the media.
