WAEC invites WASSCE candidates with withheld results for a probe

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) management is inviting prospective students who took the 2024 WASSCE for School but have had their results withheld to visit its regional offices for investigation.
In a blog post on its official website, sighted by Pretertiary.com, WAEC said such students accompanied by their parents or guardians should visit the WAEC office in the region where they wrote the School examination.
The not-for-profit-making organization explained that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of the students were withheld due to alleged involvement in examination irregularities.
“The candidates, who took part in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) For School Candidates, 2024 and had their results withheld due to alleged involvement in examination irregularities are kindly invited to the WAEC Regional Offices where they wrote the examination on the assigned dates indicated by their names. They are to be accompanied by their parents/guardians,” WAEC said in the blog post.
The management of the West African Examinations Council released the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates results of prospective students who sat for the Ghana version of the International examination on December 31, 2024.
The 2024 WASSCE for School results were approved for release at the 37th Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Wednesday, December 16, 2024, following the completion of investigations into some of the cases of irregularity reported during the examination’s conduct.
WAEC said it cancelled the subject results of 4,108 candidates for bringing foreign materials like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls.
Again the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) also indicated that the entire results of 483 candidates have also been cancelled for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls,
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) further said it withheld the subject results of 781 and the entire results of 209 candidates for various suspected offences.
A total number of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1003 second cycle schools across the country sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School.
The entry figure of students who participated in this year’s WASSCE for School is 2.66% higher than the 2023 entry figure of 448,674. A total number of 4,609 {1.0%) were absent from the examination.
“Yet still, some subject results of candidates from 319 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion. These cases are still under investigation.
The withheld results of these candidates may be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of investigations,” the West African Examinations Council said in the statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi.
