WAEC releases ‘1st series’ 2025 WASSCE Private Candidates results

The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional WASSCE Private Candidates results of of prospective students who sat for the first series of this year’s national examination.

In a statement dated March 28, 2025, sighted by pretertiary.com, the not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) said it detected some malpractice during the conduct and marking of the national private examination.

The Council indicated that amid the examination malpractice, the subject results of 34 and the entire results of 43 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of the malpractice.

According to the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates results statistics, a total of 2,683 prospective candidates representing 43.88% obtained grades ranging from A1 to C6 in English Language.

Also, 1,636 candidates (23.57%) had grades from A1-C6 in Core Mathematics, which shows a huge fail, as 3,650 candidates (52.59%) had grade F in Core Mathematics.

The core subject that had the massive chains of F was Integrated Science, with 4,011 candidates representing 55.36%. Social Studies saw most candidates scoring between A1 and C6, with fewer scoring F9.

A total number of 12,452 candidates made up of 7,998 females and 5,269 males, sat for the first series of the 2025 WASSCE Private Candidates. A total of 738 candidates who had registered for the private examination were absent.
