WAEC to fast track 2024 WASSCE withheld results scrutiny, release
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on January 3, 2025, will commence work to scrutinise and release the 2024 WASSCE withheld results as quickly as possible, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi has said.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show monitored by Pretertiary.com, the Examinations Council’s spokesperson revealed that the staff, initially set to report on January 6, 2025, would now begin work on the 3rd to begin the process.
“This has been a very turbulent year for us, but we are taking steps to address the issues. By starting earlier, we can fast track the scrutiny of withheld results and release those free of incriminating findings so that candidates can continue with their academic pursuits,” Mr Kapi stated.
He said his outfit as part of measures to fast-track the 2024 WASSC withheld results scrutiny and its release will hold discussions at its regional offices and interact with candidates involved in withheld results cases.
“Our officers would have to travel to various regional offices to meet the candidates, which comes with significant financial implications. We will require financial assistance to ensure this exercise is carried out successfully,” Kapi explained. to
The WAEC spokesman furthered that “For withheld results, our examiners identified instances of collusion and sharing of information during the marking process. These cases require further investigation and hearings with the affected candidates before any decisions are made.”
Relatedly, the leadership of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has commended the central government for ensuring the timely release of the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates results by the West African Examinations Council.
“We are pleased that this critical milestone has been achieved, alleviating the anxieties of students and their families. It is our hope that measures will be put in place to clear all outstanding debts owed to WAEC to prevent such occurrences in the future,” the National Students Union said in a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com

WAEC’s rebuttal comes after a purported statement from the Examinations Council stated that the Ghana National College engaged in persistent and organized malpractice during the 2024 edition of the WASSCE for School.
