WAEC uncovers schemes by some SHSs to ‘cheat’ in 2024 WASSCE
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it has noted with concern grand schemes by some second-cycle schools to cheat in the 2024 edition of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, the management of the not-for-profit-making organization said intelligence information picked up indicates that;
1. candidates in some parts of the country are being charged sums of money between GH¢200.00 and GH¢500.00 in order to receive assistance from invigilators
2. supervisors at some centres are planning to assign teachers to invigilate subjects
they teach
3. Some schools have registered persons who are not their bona fide students.
In other news, After scrutiny of candidates submitted by SDA Senior High School for the 2024 WASSCE for School, the West African Examinations Council says it may blacklist them from partaking in the Ghana version of the International examination.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, a spokesperson for Council, John Kapi his outfit’s move is because the majority of candidates from the Kenyasi-based Senior High School to sit for the WASSCE are illegally registered candidates.
“Candidates submitted by SDA SHS for WASSCE 2024 should be scrutinised. That is checked against their enrolment list or blacklisted from WASSCE since a majority are illegally registered candidates,” he told Daily Graphic in an interview.
The WAEC official also said it had been recommended to the management of his outfit to derecognise the SDA Senior High School (SHS) as a centre for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) conducted examinations.
Explaining the cause for the ban of the SDA students from partaking in the upcoming WASSCE for School, Kapi said the school had allowed some two persons to use their login code and uniform to register unqualified students for the examination.
“The two were able to carry out their activities with a biometric device with the number AY00T004145 with the login code 93868278 and a Lenovo laptop as well as a green lady’s school uniform and a white boy’s shirt,” he told Graphic.
The suspects, Robert Hackman, a private teacher and a part-time teacher in Kenyasi SDA Senior High School residing at Agona Swedru and Kwabena Baah Achemfour Kapi said are helping the Swedru District Police Headquarters in the investigation.
