WASSCE students with D7, E8 can still go to university – EduWatch
The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), Kofi Asare following the release of the 2024 WASSCE for School results says students who scored aggregate D7 and E8 can still go to university.
In a social media post sighted by Pretertiary.com, the education think tank Director said prospective students who did not score A1-C6 in the examination can still enter university to read a programme that is market relevant.
Kofi Asare indicated that such West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) graduates can inquire from the nearest Technical University about the following programmes:
a. Higher National Diploma (HND): Many HND programmes in Technical Universities accept D7 in Core but at least C6 in your relevant electives. After a 3-Year HND, you can do a Degree Top-Up.
b. Access Pre-HND: If you have an E8 in your Core and 3 relevant electives, you can enrol under a 1-Year Access Pre-HND programme in a Technical University, after which a successful completion transitions you into a 3-Year HND programme.
The HND programmes here are mainly STEM. They include:
1. Interior Design and Technology
2. Civil Engineering
3. Agric Engineering
4. Mechanical Engineering
5. Nursing Technology
6. Medical Laboratory Technology
According to the Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) Director, academic fees for the various government technical universities range from GH¢1,200 to GH¢2,000 a year depending on the Technical University.
The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates results of prospective students who sat for the Ghana version of the International examination on December 30, 2024.
The 2024 WASSCE for School results were approved for release at the 37th Meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee, held on Wednesday, December 16, 2024, following the completion of investigations into some of the cases of irregularity reported during the examination’s conduct.
In a press statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, WAEC said the provisional 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates results have been hosted on its official website, https://waecgh.org, for candidates to check their results.
The management of the not-for-profit organization (WAEC) further indicated that it will provide logins to school heads to enable them to access the candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination results.
“The Council would like to caution stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and an be authenticated using its results verification system. The WAEC QR code can be downloaded and used to verify results,” WAEC said in the statement.
WAEC indicated that it has cancelled the subject results of 4,108 candidates for bringing foreign materials like prepared notes, textbooks, and printed material into the examination halls.
Again the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) also indicated that the entire results of 483 candidates have also been cancelled for possession of mobile phones in the examination halls,
The management of the not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) further said it has withheld the subject results of 781 and the Entire Results of 209 candidates for various suspected offences.
A total number of 460,611 candidates made up of 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1003 second cycle schools across the country sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School.
