Parliament approves Haruna Iddrisu as ‘new’ Minister of Education
The Parliament of Ghana has unanimously approved the Member of Parliament for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu as the Minister of Education in President John Dramani Mahama’s third term of government.
Honourable Haruna Iddiru’s approval as the Sector Minister in Charge of Education follows his successful vetting by the 11-member Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20, 2025.
The 11-member Appointments Committee, chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, thoroughly screened and scrutinized him to determine his readiness and capabilities for the Ministry of Education.
During a plenary session chaired by Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah, Parliament engaged in extensive deliberations on Haruna’s credentials and plans to address pressing national issues.
With this parliamentary endorsement, former Minister for Communications Haruna Iddrisu is now set to assume his ministerial role, contributing to the government’s development agenda.
He takes over from the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum who served as the Minister of Education for the immediate past Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.
In a related development, Parliament has also approved Kwame Governs Agbodza to serve as Minister for Roads and Highways, and Eric Opoku also as Minister for Food and Agriculture.
Roads and HighWays Minsiter, Kwame Governs Agbodza, Food and Agriculture Minister, Eric Opoku and Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu were vetted by the 11-member Appointments Committee of Parliament on the same day Monday January 20, 2025.
