Primetime condemns social media insults on contestants of NSMQ
Primetime Limited, the producer of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), has condemned personal attacks on contestants by some social media users, citing cyberbullying.
Speaking at a Science and Maths Quiz ceremony last year, the Managing Director said that while it was allowed to troll the competing schools, cyberbullying directed at the individual contestants was unacceptable.
“It is disheartening to see personal attacks directed at our contestants, individuals who have put their hearts into preparing for this moment.
There’s a difference between good nurtured trolling of schools and personal attacks on the contestants,” she stated.
What we all enjoy is the trolling of the schools. But the personal attacks and cyberbullying of the contestants themselves must not be entertained,” the Director of Primetime Limited told students and stakeholders.
Nana Mensa-Bonsu urged all individuals to have compassion for the NSMQ contestants, saying, “We must all remember that these contestants are young; they are teenagers and deserve our respect and support.”
The launch and preliminary balloting for the 2025 National Science and Mathematics Quiz took place on October 15, 2025, with the main competition kicking off on October 20, 2025, and ending on November 6, 2025.
The preliminary stage will run from October 20, 2025, to October 24, 2025; the one-eighth stage will take place from October 26 to 28; the quarter-final stage from October 30 to November 1, 2025; the semi-final stage on November 3, 2025; and the grand finale on November 6, 2025.
This year, a total of record-breaking 174 Senior High Schools, including private and government second-cycle schools, will compete in the national championship of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz.
Included in the 174 record-making figure are 27 seeded Senior High Schools (SHSs) from the 2024 edition of the NSMQ, 106 regional qualifier winners, 32 top-runners-up, and nine private Senior High Schools.
Primetime Limited says the grand finale of the national championship of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) will be held on November 6, 2025, in Cape Coast, in the Central Region of Ghana, at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
