WAEC releases 1st series 2026 WASSCE for Private results online
The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the first series of the 2026 provisional West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private results.
In a statement sighted by Pretertiary.com, the Council said the provisional results for a total of 41,767 candidates who sat for the private examination previously known as November/December (Nov/Dec).
According to WAEC, a total of 23,410 students representing 9,980 males and 13,430 females sat for the first series of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates.
The press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr John Kapi, disclosed that a total of 746 registered candidates were absent.
The management of the not-for-profit-making organisation (WAEC) in the press statement said it detected some malpractice during the conduct and marking of the national private examination.
Following the malpractice, the Council has withheld the entire results of 87 candidates and subject results of 76 others for alleged examination malpractice, including collusion, impersonation, bringing in unauthorised materials, and seeking external assistance.
“In view of that, the subject results of 76 and the entire results of 87 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice,” WAEC said in the statement.
It emphasised that the 2026 withheld West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of these candidates will either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded.
The Examinations Council says candidates whose results have been withheld should visit https://irreg.waec.org or click on the withheld/cancelled button on the home page and be redirected to the irregularity and investigations page.
At the investigations page, the West African Examinations Council said it will display the reasons for withholding the WASSCE for Private results. Candidates will receive information on the next line of action.
Following the Nov/Dec results release, WAEC has cautioned members of the public to be wary of scammers who contact candidates and promise to upgrade their results for a fee payable through mobile money transfers.
“Candidates are to note that WAEC’s results database is well secured and all results can be authenticated. Institutions and organisations are therefore advised to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from WAEC or access the confirmation/verification service online at the WAEC official website, www.waecgh.org,” WAEC stated.
According to statistics of the private examination, 6,486 candidates representing 55.94 per cent obtained grades A1 to C6 in English Language. For Core Mathematics, 6,675 candidates, representing 37.84 per cent, achieved A1 to C6, while 3,679 candidates (28.13 per cent) attained similar grades in Integrated Science.
Social Studies recorded the highest pass rate, with 8,131 candidates, representing 75.10 per cent, obtaining A1 to C6.
Per the statistics of the 2026 Nov/Dec results 1,625 candidates (14.02 per cent) obtained grade D7 in English Language, while 1,926 candidates (10.92 per cent) recorded the same grade in Core Mathematics. For Integrated Science, 1,743 candidates (13.33 per cent) had D7, while 660 candidates (6.10 per cent) recorded D7 in Social Studies.
For grade E8, 1,604 candidates (13.83 per cent) were recorded in English Language, while 2,103 (11.92 per cent) obtained the same grade in Core Mathematics. Integrated Science recorded 2,413 candidates with E8, while 533 (4.92 per cent) were recorded in Social Studies.
A total of 1,879 candidates (16.21 per cent) obtained grade F9 in English Language, while 6,936 candidates (39.32 per cent) recorded F9 in Core Mathematics. In Integrated Science, 5,239 candidates (40.06 per cent) obtained F9, while 1,503 (13.88 per cent) recorded F9 in Social Studies.
How to check WASSCE for Private results
1. Open a web browser on your smartphone or computer
2. Visit WASSCE for Private result portal
3. Enter your Index Number.
4. Select the Type of Examination (e.g. WASSCE Private).
5. Select your Examination Year (e.g., 2026).
6. Enter the Serial Number found on the Voucher.
7. Enter the 12-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your Voucher (e.g., 012345678912).
8. Confirm your Index Number and Examination Year. This is to ensure that your examination information is correct.
9. Click on Submit and wait for the display in the pop-up window. This may take several minutes.
Ahead of the conduct of the examination, the Council indicated that candidates apprehended for offences inside or outside the examination hall will have their results in the examination withheld pending cancellation of the entire results by the appropriate Committee of Council.
The West African Examinations Council said stealing, covering or misappropriating the script(s) of other candidates, substituting worked scripts during or after the examination are offences.
It also said similar offences include a candidate seeking or receiving help from non-candidate(s) such as invigilator(s), supervisor(s), teacher(s) or other personalities during the examination.
“Where the person giving help is not a candidate for the examination in session but a prospective candidate, he/she shall be barred from taking any examination conducted by the Council for one year and will also be reported to the appropriate authority for disciplinary action to be taken against him/her.
In addition to the above action, the candidate’s entire results shall be withheld pending cancellation by the appropriate Committee of Council,” WAEC stated in a blog post on its official website.
The not-for-profit-making organisation further indicated that candidates apprehended for offences such as tearing part of the question paper or answer booklet during the examination shall have their entire results withheld pending cancellation of the results of the subject involved by the appropriate Committee of Council.
It also said candidates who refused to submit worked scripts to the supervisor after the examination, start to write before commencement of the examination or continue to write after stop work has been announced will have their results withheld pending cancellation of the results of the subject involved.
