WAEC shift conduct of WASSCE Private from Nov/Dec to Jan/Oct
The West African Examinations Council says the WASSCE for Private Candidates, commonly referred to as Nov/Dec, will not be administered in November/December again, but in January and October.
According to WAEC, the private examination will be conducted in two series (first series and second series) to enable second-cycle school graduates to apply for tertiary admission on time without delay.
The first series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, the not-for-profit organisation said, will be conducted in January and October for the second series.
In an interview monitored by Pretertiary.com, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, said the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Private Candidates is now referred to as WASSCE for Private Candidates One (WASSCE PC 1).
“We are introducing another one that we call the PC1 or private candidates examination one, which comes early February next year, so that those who want to gain admission into university, but after they receive their results for the WASSCE for School, may need to do some remedial can do that and use those grades to enter the university,” Mr Kapi said.

The Public Relations Officer for WAEC said the examination is a new initiative to allow prospective students to resit papers they did not perform well in the WASSCE for School as early as January and February.
Directions for WASSCE for Private candidates
1. You are expected to be seated 30 minutes before the start of a paper. Candidates who report After work has started, would not be admitted into the examination hall.
2. If you arrive after the start of the paper, you will not be allowed to write the examination. A candidate is deemed to be late after the Supervisor has issued the order to start work.
3. Note that you will be required to go through biometric verification (identification of candidates by their fingerprints).
4. Read very carefully the general directions given at the front cover page of the question paper. You will not gain extra marks if you answer more than the number of questions you are required to answer. Much time may be wasted in writing down information not asked for.
5. Candidates offering Art or Geometrical/Building/Mechanical Drawing or Typewriting, must bring their own drawing boards or drawing instruments or typewriter to the examination hall.
6. If you decide to leave the examination room before the end of the period allotted to the paper, you must not take your question paper away with you; you must hand it over with your script to the Supervisor. You may, however, return at the end of the test to collect your question paper.
7. As soon as you are told that time is up, ensure that your answer booklet has your full name and index number written on it. Wait until your script has been collected before you leave the examination hall.
8. Candidates whose examination results have been cancelled for resorting to dishonest means
may be refused re-entry to future examinations.
9. Candidates must ensure that there are no marks or inscriptions on their Admission Notices.
10. It is the responsibility of candidates to check inside, under and around their desks for notes, books, pieces of paper or any foreign materials and hand them over to the Supervisor/ Invigilation before sitting at their desks to write a paper.
12. All candidates must submit themselves to searching by the Supervisor/Invigilation or Council representative before entering the Examination Hall. Candidates are not permitted to have in their possession any foreign material while in the Examination Room, except the correct question paper given out by the Supervisor/Invigilator. Neither should they bring any book, memorandum, nor pocketbook, notes, calculator, manuals and cases or papers whatsoever into the Examination Room.
13. Under no circumstances should any candidate take a Mobile Phone/Smart watch or any electronic communication devices into the examination room. The punishment for bringing any such gadget into the examination room is the cancellation of the candidate’s entire results.
14. Candidates should not take any used or unused answer booklets out of the Examination Room.
Candidates disregarding this caution would be severely punished.
15. Candidates guilty of disorderly conduct or causing disturbance in or near the Examination Room are liable to be expelled from the examination.
16. Candidates and parents are to note that candidates who are alleged to have been involved in examination malpractice shall have their relevant results withheld. The candidate will also be invited to fair hearing as part of investigation and the relevant results will be cancelled if found capable.
17. The Council reserves the right to cancel the results of candidates if it believes that they have been involved in irregularities before, during or after the examination.
18. It is a criminal offence punishable by law to engage in any examination malpractice (WAEC Law, Act 719 (2006)). You are hereby requested to comport yourself strictly in accordance with the regulations bearing in mind that in addition to having your examination results cancelled you may be prosecuted in court.
19. Do not use correcting fluid to clean name or index number. The use of correcting fluid (tipex)
is not allowed.
20. No amendment of date of birth will be allowed after release of results. All requests for amendment of any information on bio-data will only be considered during the registration and before the conduct of the examination. Under no circumstance, will Council consider correction of error of any kind after certificates have been printed.
How to register for WASSCE for Private
1. Visit the Nov/Dec registration portal
2. Select the link to WASSCE for Private Candidates.
3. Click on START REGISTRATION HERE.
4. Fill in the required security information data, i.e., password, security question, etc.
5. Fill in your personal information.
6. Upload your picture. (See Caption 9 for details)
7. Upload your signature.
8. Select the subject(s) you intend to write.
9. Print your invoice and take it to any of the banks listed in Caption 15.
10. Pay the appropriate fees at the bank.
11. Select the Centre where you wish to take the examination.
12. You will use your Invoice Number to access your Index Number and Admission Notice.
According to WAEC, barred candidates who register for the examination before the expiration of their sanction will have their registration annulled, and fees paid shall be forfeited.
How to check WASSCE for Private results
1. Visit the WASSCE results portal
2. Enter your Index Number.
3. Select the Type of Examination (e.g., WASSCE).
4. Select your Examination Year (eg, 2025).
5. Enter the Serial Number found on the Voucher.
6. Enter the 12-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your Voucher, eg, 012345678912.
7. Confirm your Index Number and Examination Year. This is to ensure that your examination information is correct.
8. Click on Submit and wait for the display in the pop-up window. This may take several minutes.
